Movistar and Claro given president approval for mobile licenses in Costa Rica
Costa Rica's president, Laura Chinchilla, signed the resolution that allocates spectrum concession to Movistar and Claro to operate cellular networks in Costa Rica. Movistar and Claro are to pay Costa Rica $170 million for two of the three 15-year licenses available.
Chinchilla said that Costa Rica will in the next three years move to a cellular and internet service similar to developed countries and will place Costa Rica as a leader in Latin America.
