Movistar links Central America with new network

Movistar, subsidiary of Spanish telecoms company Telefónica, presented its new fibre optic network that links Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

The new network will allow local and international companies operating in the region to have better and cheaper access to services such as IP phone services, videoconferences and corporate email.

Data transmission will be quicker as the network is on land, as opposed to submarine cables used by other companies in the region.
