Movistar Opens Its Doors Today In Costa Rica

Movistar, the cellphone brand of Spain’s Telefónica, is opening its doors today ahead of operations later this week by its competitor Claro, of Mexico’s América Móvil.

Offers to lure prepaid customers from the state telecom, the ICE, are packages with free minutes to favourite numbers that the customer chooses. Movistar will also be offering prepaid service for Blackberry.

Movistar intendeds to cover all market segments, starting with prepaid and then moving to postpaid customers, which according to the telecom has a potential of 1 million users.
