Mukul, icon of a Nicaragua that no longer exists, closes its doors
Monday, June 25, 2018
The luxury Mukul resort hotel, an icon of a Nicaragua that has been stripped off the world's tourism market by a violent insurrection, has closed till further notice.
Recently, the hotel had no guests at all. It was an emblematic project of Nicaragua's only billionaire, Carlos Pellas, owner of Grupo Pellas.
Pellas was a key player for years in the alliance between the nation’s business leaders and left-wing president Daniel Ortega. The alliance no longer exists and Pellas has denounced Ortega.
