Mundo Maya expects 50 million tourists in decade

The five countries that make up the Mundo Maya, expect to receive some 50 million tourists over the next 10 years, due to intense joint promotion this year, according to El Salvador's tourism minister, José Napoleón Duarte.

The promotion project started with an investment of $200,000, but now the countries expect to invest $2.5 million during the next three years.

Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Belize hope to receive 5 million tourists this year, while Mexico expects 10 million in its Mayan region alone.
