New AES hydro plant is key for Panama

Construction of the 223 megawatts Changuinola I hydroelectric scheme in Panama has been completed. Tests are underway before commissioning probably by the end of this month.

Work on the AES scheme began in 2005. The investment was some $600 million.

Changuinola I will broaden the current narrow difference between supply and demand in Panama’s electricity market.
