New international airport boosts expansion of Panama’s Colon Free Zone

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Though well-known among merchants from all over the world, Panama’s province of Colon is a mystery outside trade circles. However, it houses the world’s second largest free zone.

Until now, the Colon airport hosted only domestic flights but is about to get a major facelift. The new airport will offer international passenger and cargo flights for the thousands of business people who visit the Free Zone every year.

Investment in the new airport will be around $60 million; the government plans to spend some $40 million of that in the first phase of construction.
