New power plant will add 200 megawatts to Costa Rica’s capacity from December

Monday, October 11, 2010

The Garabito oil-fired power plant in Costa Rica will come on stream by the end of this year, just in time to ensure electricity supplies in the dry season.

Garabito will be ready just in time for the Costa Rican Electricity Institute to provide power in the summer.

The arrival of Garabito is particularly handy because of delays in the new Pirrís hydroelectric plant.

Pirrís is now due to come on stream in the first quarter of next year following an original start-up date of this year.
