Nicaragua advances in battle worth coffee rust
Monday, January 19, 2015
Coffee exports from Nicaragua rose 84 percent in December compared with the same month during the previous cycle to total 47,746 60-kg bags, the national export center Cetrex said on Friday.
The coffee crop in Nicaragua is expected to rise 7 percent in the 2014/2015 season compared with the previous cycle to reach 1.61 million bags as a result of advances in the control of the tree-killing fungus coffee rust, which has battered coffee farmers across the region over the past couple of seasons.
