Nicaragua aims for 90 percent of energy from renewable sources by 2017

Nicaragua aims to break its dependence on oil imports by depending on renewables for 90 percent of its energy needs by 2017.
Currently Nicaragua depends on oil for 66 percent of its power plants.
At present, the nation’s generating capacity is 560 megawatts.
