Nicaragua aims for big boost in hydroelectricity over four to five years

Nicaragua’s Ministry of Energy and Mines has confirmed that hydro generation activities in the country will increase significantly within the next four to five years.

Some 18 hydroelectric projects are in the study phase and six projects are currently under construction.

Nicaragua has a hydroelectric potential of 3,280 megawatts, of which only 98 megawatts is currently being utilized. This represents a huge potential for companies interested in developing projects in the country.
