Nicaragua aims to boost geothermal power

Nicaragua produces 60 percent of its energy through renewable sources, the Energy and Mining Minster, Emilio Rappaccioli said.

The government wants to go further and reach 94 percent of its energy consumption with green energy, particularly geothermal, by 2020.

There are two projects underway that will help the country reach that goal. One is the geothermal project San Jacinto Tizate, with a capacity of 72 megawatts, and Tumarín, which will add another 250 megawatts of hydroelectric power.
