Nicaragua breaks sugar exporting record

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Nicaragua's sugar industry exported a record 400,000 tons during the 2012-2013 harvest.

The figure is 16,000 tons more than the amount exported in the previous harvest, general manager of the country's sugar commission Mario Amador said.

However, in terms of value the exports generated $220 million, similar to the previous harvest due to a drop in the international price of sugar.
