Nicaragua canal worries scientists

The recent approval of plans to build a canal across Nicaragua has been met with concern from the scientific community about the project's environmental risks.

While some studies into the economic viability of the project are yet to be conducted, construction could begin in the next couple of years and last for a decade.

"Everything has been done very quickly and without any sort of consultation of national or international experts," consulting geophysicist Sergio Espinosa said.
