Nicaragua gold exports hit $1.1 billion in five years

Nicaragua's gold exports reached $1.15 billion from 2008 to 2012, according to the Nicaraguan Chamber of Mining.

During the same period, mining companies invested in Nicaragua some $366 million.

The mining sector directly employs about 4,400 people, as well as some 9,000 indirect jobs, said the Chamber.
