Nicaragua issues licenses for two relatively small-scale hydroelectric plants

Monday, January 10, 2011

The Nicaraguan government issued licenses to operate and maintain hydroelectric power stations to a Canadian firm and a domestic company.

The permits were granted to Canada’s Hidroelectrica Piedra Puntuda and Nicaraguan firm Energia Tropical Sostenible Cerro.

One license is for the Piedra Puntuda project, a 15-megawatt hydroelectric power station. The other is for the 1.47-megawatt Las Cañas hydroelectric power plant.
