Nicaragua mobilizes resources to reduce disaster damage

Monday, October 31, 2011

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said the government will mobilize the equivalent of about $16 million to meet urgent needs of repair and construction of housing and road infrastructure devastated by rain.

Ortega said that this figure is insufficient given the magnitude of the devastation in the country due to the storm, but that this is all the state can do with its own resources.

According to Ortega, the amount of $16 million was allocated to different institutions, and they are now being diverted to tackle the emergency.
