Nicaragua modernizes its frontier with Costa Rica

Nicaragua is beefing up development in a region around its disputed border with Costa Rica.

While funds have dried up for development on Costa Rica’s side of the frontier, Nicaragua is building two airports, stepped up dredging of the San Juan river and lunched feasibility studies for the construction of a dry canal.

In addition, Nicaragua is pondering the Brito hydroelectric project, a trans-oceanic canal, and oil exploration around the Calero-Portillo island.
