Nicaragua needs more education in order to avoid squandering demographic bonus

Friday, July 16, 2010

Nicaragua has some 5.8 million inhabitants but the number is expected to rise to 6.5 million in 2020. By 2040, however, the population will begin to age, according to the national statistics institute.

The country has three decades in which to exploit its demographic bulge, with a significant growth in the numbers of young people in then working population.

However, the advantage will be lost unless more education is available, the institute warns.
