Nicaragua rejects plan to share Europe’s meat quota

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Central American meat producers and traders are locked in a fierce dispute over the 9,500 metric tons quota of meat due to the region under its association accord with Europe.

Nicaragua is opposed to  an equal share of the quota by all six Central American countries. Nicaragua is the largest meat producer and exporter of the six.

Meat traders dealt with the issue at a recent meeting in Guatemala where each country was to receive 1,583 metric tons. But the accord was not ratified.
