Tuesday, November 16, 2010

The government of Nicaragua has said it will take four years for the construction of the 250-megawatt Brito hydroelectric plant to be completed, representing an investment of $600 million.

Once operation in 2015 the hydroelectric dam on the Rio San Juan will be the single largest electricity generation source in the country.

There have been concerns regarding the detrimental environmental impact of the dam, but the Nicaraguan authorities are promoting the project.
