Nicaragua’s coffee exports earn $260 million

Monday, August 9, 2010

Nicaragua earned $259.8 million from coffee exports in the first nine months of the 2009-2010 crop year, a 42.6 percent increase on the same period a year earlier.

Authorities attribute the increase to improved productivity and the increase in international coffee prices. Coffee is Nicaragua’s leading export.

During the first nine months of the current harvest, the price of a 45.45-kilo bag of coffee reached $146.5, up from $132 a year earlier.
