Nicaragua’s coffee exports surge by 44 percent to $217 million in this year’s harvest

Monday, July 12, 2010

Nicaragua’s coffee exports rose by 44 percent in value to $217 million in the first eight months of the 2009-2010 harvest, compared with the same period a year earlier.

Most of the increase is due to increased productivity and higher international prices. Coffee is Nicaragua’s leading export.

In the last eight months of the current harvest, the price of a 45.45- kilo bag rose to $145, up from $131 a year earlier.
