Nicaragua’s coffee production to increase by 32 percent from two years ago. Growers boost use of fertilizer

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Nicaragua’s coffee output in the year starting October 1 may be 2.25 million bags, up 32 percent from two years ago, when the crop was last in the less productive phase of a biennial cycle, the country’s National Coffee Council said.

Growers increased the use of fertilizer and improved farm maintenance, Luis Osorio, the council’s technical secretary, said. The estimate matched projected output this year.

The country is the world’s eighth biggest producer of arabica beans.
