Nicaragua’s livestock boom driven by demand from Venezuela and United States

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Livestock production became one of the major sources of revenue and jobs in Nicaragua in the last year, thanks to growing demand for meat and dairy products from Venezuela and the United States.

"Livestock is one of the most dynamic economic sectors and provides direct jobs for over 800,000 people in rural areas” Solón Guerrero, the president of the Nicaraguan Cattlemen's Association, said. The industry accounts for more than a quarter of Nicaragua’s exports and its gross domestic product, he added.
