Nicaragua's planned canal deals in mega-numbers

The Panama Canal Authority welcomed Nicaragua's initiative to build an inter-oceanic canal.
"Competition is good" said a spokesperson for the Panamanian government last Friday.
The plan is very ambitious, and some observers say even too ambitious. The project would require some $30 billion, and would need excavation of up to three times that of the expansion of the Panama Canal and also the Suez Canal.
