Nicaragua sees sugar industry boom

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Nicaragua's sugar industry is expecting to produce at least 17 million quintals for the 2014-2015 harvest, which will begin in November this year, said Mario Amador, director of the country's sugar producers committee.

"We expect the harvest to grow considerably more than last year's, and hope to produce some 8 million tons of sugarcane," he added.

Nicaragua produced 16.4 million quintals in the 2013-2014 harvest, 1 million more than the previous season.
