Nicaragua sets up a committee to oversee project to rival the Panama Canal

The government of Nicaragua announced the creation of a committee responsible for overseeing its inter-oceanic canal project.
The project could be supported by Latin American countries, as well as China, Russia and The United States.
The canal is estimated to cost $18 million and take 12 years to complete and when finished, it will be 280 kilometers long, according to a 2006 study.
