Nicaragua shelves Canal plan to head for port

These days almost nobody is mentioning the plan to build a rival for the Panama Canal. But what seems to be a much more modest alternative -- the development of a deepwater port at Bluefields on the Caribbean Coast.

What fuels the new project is a feasibility study now under way, and the construction of a new road that will link Bluefields to the Pacific.
