Nicaragua swims against tide by backing miners

While most countries in Central America want to restrict or ban mining, Nicaragua is working hard to promote investment in the sector.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy, along with the government investment promotion agency ProNicaragua, are promoting the country at the PDAC 2013, the largest mining trade fair in the world.

Last year, Nicaragua exported $364 million worth of gold and $9 million in silver. Gold has become the country's third largest export.
