Nicaragua to cut 2,000 garment factory jobs
Thursday, January 8, 2015
Some 2,000 garment factory jobs will be lost in Nicaragua during January and February.
The job cuts come as Nicaragua is no longer among the countries with a Preferntial Trading Area pact with the U.S., a benefit included in the U.S.-Central American and Dominican Republic trade agreement.
For the first half of this year, as much as 5,000 garment factory jobs are expected to be lost, according to Dean García, director of the Nicaraguan textile association.
