Nicaraguan business leaders take to streets in protest

Thursday, December 13, 2018

Nicaragua's private sector is going to seek a police permit to stage a protest march.

The business leaders want their march in order to demand the right of citizens to protest peacefully. At least 325 Nicaraguans have been killed and more than 500 imprisoned in a series of protests against the government that began in April and have continued ever since. Business leaders have protested also, but never in the streets, only by issuing statements.

The leading business organization, the Cosep, says that the upcoming protest march will back its demands for electoral reform, freedom at the polls, and and end to government repression.
