Nicaraguan canal route revealed

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Wang Jin, the Chinese entrepreneur behind the Nicaragua Canal, has revealed the route for the 170-mile waterway.

Beginning at the Pacific coast port of Brito, ships will cross the freshwater expanse of Lake Nicaragua, through the jungle towards the country’s Caribbean lowlands and end in Bluefields, the port on the eastern Mosquito Coast.

“I am 100 per cent certain the construction will begin in December 2014 and we will finish in five years in 2019,” he said.
