Nicaraguan coffee crop off to a bad start

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Nicaragua's coffee exports plunged in the first two months of the 2018-2019 harvest, according to Cetrex, the national export center.

Exports amounted to more than $13 million in what were the first two months of the harvest. At the same stage of the previous harvest, exports amounted to $33 million. The drop amounted to 60 percent.

The problem is not one of prices. The international price has fallen but only very slightly. The problem is a sharp drop in the volume of exports.
