The political and economic crisis in Nicaragua is at last making an impact on the United Nations.
Yesterday in a speech to the world forum, the Costa Rican vice-president Epsy Campbell said that "the situation in Nicaragua is untenable."
She added: "The crisis in that country has the potential to build up to a major threat to the stability and the future economic development of Central America."
As business leaders in Nicaragua have urged, Campbell urged that "sooner or later a dialogue has to begin and with that the beginning of a solution to the crisis."
