Nicaraguan fears on rifts with Costa Rica and Honduras

Friday, November 26, 2010

Nicaragua has lost millions of dollars as a result of blockades of its borders in recent years. As a result, business leaders fear for the impact on trade of the nation’s current conflicts with Costa Rica and Honduras.

Nicaragua depends on Puerto Limón in Costa Rica and Puerto Cortés in Honduras. As a result, the government needs to find a solution to the conflicts with both countries; otherwise trade will be seriously disrupted.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Nicaragua underlines that Nicaragua has no deep-water port in the Caribbean.
