Obama and lawmakers clear hurdle on Panama accord

The Obama administration and lawmakers have reached a deal on extending aid to workers hurt by globalization. The accord clears a key hurdle to the ratification of trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama.

The breakthrough on the Trade Adjustment Assistance scheme means the Senate finance committee will begin debating the three trade deals this week, potentially setting the stage for final votes in the coming months.
