Onyx pulls plug on solar power project for Roatan

Monday, March 19, 2012

US-based Onyx Service & Solutions has informed its Honduran partners and local government officials that it has decided to terminate development of a 22-megawatt solar project on Roatan island.

"Though the project had garnered significant support from the local government and potential end-users, Onyx has determined that the current political, financial, and regulatory situation in Honduras presents an environment that is, at best, unfriendly to alternative energy projects," the company said.

The firm will continue to develop smaller-scale projects on Roatan.
