Open market in cellphones to give Costa Rica $1 billion boost

The opening of the market in cellphone service is expected to boost Costa Rica’s economy by some $1 billion next year.

In addition, the new market is expected to create 3,500 jobs directly and about 40,000 indirectly.

The two new entrants to the market, Claro and Movistar, are obliged to pay the government $170 million in the coming months.
