Ortega uses $107 million from Venezuela on subsidies
Thursday, June 9, 2011
Daniel Ortega, the Nicaraguan president, ordered $107 million to be paid in electricity subsidies.
The money came from aid to Venezuela. The subsidies will be paid to 528,000 electricity users that consume less than 150 kilowatts a month.
According to an official statement, Ortega used the money to avoid a big increase in energy costs expected as a result of higher oil prices.
