Panama Canal Authority plans invest $170 million on spillway for flood prevention

A new spillway is to be built for flood prevention in the Panama Canal. The project will cost some $170 million, the Panama Canal Authority announced.

The aim is to regulate increases in water levels when flooding threatens.

Design of the new spillway will last 20 months. By the end of 2016 it should be in operation.
