Panama Canal awards $4 billion in contracts on way to $5.25 billion target

The Panama Canal Authority has already contracted $4 billion in public works and projects of the $5.25 billion to be spent on widening the canal.

In overall terms, the project is 20 percent completed.

The newly widened canal is due to be completed in 2014.
