Panama Canal chiefs to meet owners for talks on tolls

Friday, November 23, 2012

Panama Canal Authority administrator Jorge Luis Quijano will meet the International Chamber of Shipping next month to discuss future transit tolls when the Pacific-Atlantic waterway opens to larger vessels from mid-2015.

In May 2012, the shipowners’ body criticized Panama Canal toll increases of up to 15 percent as “rushed, excessive and likely to cause further problems for shipping companies”.

It called the toll rises “simply unacceptable”.
