Panama Canal toll hike unlikely to impact LNG

Monday, August 14, 2017

A move to hike tariffs on vessels transiting the Panama Canal, approved by the Cabinet Council of the Republic of Panama is unlikely to significantly alter export decisions or even shipping routes for LNG cargoes loading on the US Gulf Coast.

For LNG vessels, the revised toll structure effectively raises the cost of transiting the canal to a 15 percent increase.
