Panama Canal transits surge in April

The Panama Canal in April saw vessel transits increase 7 percent to 1,016 ships compared with the same month of last year, according to the latest monthly operations summary from the Panama Canal Authority.
The Canal opened its expanded third lane in July of last year, allowing much larger vessels to pass through the important cargo gateway between Asia and the east coast of North and South America.
