Panama leads human development

Panama, in 60th position globally, is the Central American country with the highest level of human development, according to the 2016 United Nations Development Programme.

Costa Rica is second in the isthmus, gaining three places from the previous year, while Honduras in 130th spot is last.

In Central America, only Panama and Costa Rica are considered to be high in development.

Norway leads the index for second year in a row, while the Central African Republic is last.

The Human Development Index measures factors, which include life expectancy, health, education, and standard of living among 188 countries (number in brackets indicate each country’s global position).
