Panama obtains best port performance in Latin America

Among 120 ports, Panama obtained the first place in the top 50 with the ports that performed best in Latin America, according to the Port containerized throughput Ranking 2017.

Puerto Colón had the first place with more than 3.89 million container movements and Balboa port third with 2.98 million.

The best five ports in Latin America were Colón Panamá, Santos Brasil, Balboa Panamá, Manzanillo México and Cartagena Colombia.

Costa Rica ranked third in Central America with a movement of more than 1.19 million operations in Puerto Moin, Limón, while El Salvador was ranked last (209 thousands).

The study is based on the movement of containers in 120 ports in the region, based on the information gathered with port authorities and operators of maritime terminals, choosing the best 50 in Latin America.

The data in parentheses indicate the port position in Latin America.
