Panama passengers hit by strike through Tuesday on Spirit Airlines

Monday, June 14, 2010

Panamanian passengers hoping to take a low-cost Spirit Airlines flight to Florida and beyond were out of luck on the weekend following a two- day strike by pilots.

Spirit canceled all flights until Tuesday, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, including incoming visitors to Panama.

The pilots’ strike arose from a pay dispute that has lasted more than three years. The union says its wages are lower than those of competitors such as AirTran Airways and JetBlue.
