Panama proudly unveils its new Canal

Panama unveiled its new, much broader Canal, the most important engineering project so far of this century, with new locks that will permit the passage of ships three times as much.
The project has provoked controversy at times. The 20-month delay in the handover and the extra costs involved led to disputes between the construction consortium, led by Spain’s Sacyr and the Canal administration.
