Panama rakes in $153 million from state stake in firms

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Companies in which the state has a minority equity stake in Panama contributed $153.3 million in dividends to the government last year.

Among what are known as “mixed” companies, Cable & Wireless made the largest contribution to the state coffers at $65.6 million, followed by AES Panamá, $27.9 million and Enel Fortuna at $27.5 million. On the other hand, however, Bahía las Minas Corp. and Panama Port Company reported no dividends at all because of their intensive investment plans.
